Thank you for your interest in working with me!

Working together one-on-one allows us to take a fully customized approach to help you reach your goals.  This is not the standard cookie cutter personal training experience where we just follow a list of exercises regardless of how those exercises affect you; and fixate on sweating, feeling “the burn”, and chasing soreness.

Our time together will be focused on understanding what your unique nervous system and body need in order to get stronger, move better, eliminate pain, or get past recurring issues that keep popping up; preventing you from enjoying the activities that are important to you.

We’ll take a neuro-centric approach to our training.  That means we’ll consider the various stimuli to the nervous system that affect posture, balance, pain, movement quality, and strength output.

What we cover in a one-on-one session will vary depending on your needs, goals, and the timeline for working together.

These are a few of the neuro-centric aspects to optimal performance we may assess and train:

Your brain’s map of your body

How well can you feel and sense your body and how it’s positioned in space?  Can you move all of your joints smoothly and with control?  We have specialized receptors in our skin and joints that inform the brain about where we are and how well we are moving.

Decreased sensation or poor body mapping can lead to stiffness, pain, and stunted progress when it comes to building strength.  It is very hard to strengthen areas of the body that your brain cannot feel.

We can improve this brain to body map with sensory drills, specific joint mobilizations, and neurodynamic exercises.

Your vision system

More than 50% of the surface of your brain is devoted to processing visual information - that’s a lot of brain real estate! This gives us a a big clue about how important our vision is for brain and body health.

Good vision is more than just seeing in 20/20.  Visual processing involves clearly seeing what you’re looking at, understanding what you’re seeing (interpretation), and reacting to what that information means.

If the ability to move quickly is important to you, you’ll want to improve your vision skills!

Eye movements are also linked to vestibular system function, balance, and posture.  Recent studies have shown that eye movement dysfunction plays a significant role in neck pain.  The good news is there are simple and effective exercises to that can help!

How to move for the results you want

Demystify your training and build confidence.  Many of us have learned so much conflicting information, or flat out misinformation about what to do, how to exercise, and what to focus on.  You might feel completely paralyzed and unsure of what you should be doing or how to do things in a way that wont exacerbate old injuries or create a new one.

Working together, you’ll learn proper exercise technique, understand what weights or equipment to use, how many reps and sets to do, and WHY you’re doing what you’re doing.

Your balance, stability, and dynamic posture

Training for better balance and stability involves more than just standing on one foot.  The vestibular system (inner ear) is responsible for telling us which way is up and what direction we are going. Even small deficits in vestibular function can result in balance problems, dizziness, postural issues, neck and back stiffness or pain Even mood and emotional changes can be a result of vestibular issues.

There are simple and effective ways to train the vestibular system and the other systems involved in creating stability and postural control.

How you’re breathing

Many of us have breathing issues we are unaware of that impact more than just our cardiovascular fitness.

How we breathe affects our energy levels, mood (anxiety/ depression/ motivation), sleep quality, brain fog, pain levels, bloating, and the fuel for our brain to make neuroplastic changes.

We may need to address issues with breathing mechanics, biochemistry, or daily breathing habits.
